For a brief moment before it reached the light of day, the Federal Communications Commission planned a major study of journalism newsrooms designed to define “Critical Information Needs”. The idea was to send out agents to media outlets around the country to inquire about such things as “who decides which stories are to be covered”, “news philosophy”, “responsiveness to underserved populations”, “the demographics of news management” defined by race and gender, etc.
I assume that the left, having given up on the legislative and judicial branches, was attempting to use the regulatory arm of the FCC to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine or to achieve the same result–the stifling of media outlets with, shall we say, views inconsistent with those of the current regime.
Nothing exposes the true mindset of the progressive left more than clear evidence of its proclivity for the rule of experts, and this project could be exhibit number one. The arrogance is stunning, and I am almost sorry that it was canned immediately upon public scrutiny and not allowed to play out for awhile longer if only to further expose this hubris for what it is, the fascism of the left.
